Does Funnel Cake Mix Go Bad

Christmas in NYC! (Part Five)

Siamo purtroppo arrivati al nostro ultimo giorno di vacanza a NY, il 22 Dicembre. Vogliamo infatti trascorrere comunque a casa con i nostri familiari il Natale. Possiamo goderci questa giornata fino mid-afternoon because we have the return flight in the evening.

The first step now is almost a must (alas) after the tragic events of 11 September. We want to return to Ground Zero to see where are the jobs and make once again a tribute to the victims of this absurd attack.
from outside the area looks like a construction site to another, but if you look at the size of this void in the heart of a city so large, one can not but be impressed by the vastness of that horrific tragedy. Ground Zero is still an open wound, and perhaps, even when the area will be rebuilt, and apparently there will be more obvious signs, that scar remains forever.
now the Freedom Tower is under construction that will stand here advanced as other new skyscrapers. The place occupied by the twin towers will be empty instead, or better, there will be two swimming pools to replace them.

We'd like to go to nearby St. Paul's Chapel. Within this chapel the memory of those sad moments is still strong and clear. Impossible not to be touched by the image of the firefighter suit burned lying on a bench attached to the endless photos, messages received from a bit 'from every part of States and the world. Unfortunately it is too early, the chapel is still closed, we should expect too much, just look outside and decide to continue our tour.

Take the metro to go up to the picturesque district of Chelsea. Here, for us, but we recommend it to anyone, it is well worth a visit to the Chelsea market. This is a food market, housed in a charming hotel.

We are here in the area for another reason. From the near Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District, it is possible to access the The high line, an elevated park that is spread over an overpass, where there are still abandoned rails of an old railway line.

the park can be accessed from Gansevoort Street through a lift, but also from other places, to 20th street. It 's very busy in the summer and spring.

From here we cut to 6 th avenue to reach again the place where we basically started at the beginning of this trip: Bryant Park. In fact, we want to make us another round in his Christmas stalls.

We can not go back for a final farewell to the increasingly crowded Times Square.

It 's almost lunch time and we are moving towards the Gallagher's steakhouse consigliataci by our friend Ely / Fla , also with newyork always acute. The steak is really good and the place is also very characteristic!

Back on Fifth Avenue for one last ride in the shops before stopping at Rockefeller Center to salute the legendary Christmas tree and skating rink below.

Back at the hotel to retrieve your bags waiting for the shuttle that will take us to JFK. After a grueling around NY literally crazy with traffic and an unexpected stop at La Guardia to leave a couple of people, after two and a half hours we are at our terminal. Luckily we had set the shuttle with very broad advance ...

almost took off on time to return home, even if a bit ' at our house we were in New York ...
